Kumihimo is a traditional Japanese braiding technique using cords and a special "wheel" to create beautiful patterns.  Adding beads creates a look similar to bead crochet (but much easier) with never ending design possibilities.  Today we use a foam disk to keep the right tension, which also happens to be lightweight and easy to pack as a travelling project.
