Appointments & Procedures

Let's all stay safe!  Bead In Hand is a small space and we've given considerable thought about keeping staff and customers healthy. In short, we're asking customers to schedule an appointment for in-store shopping.  You can contact us by phone or e-mail, or go to the Appointment Calendar to see available times and to schedule an appointment.  Keep reading for details about shopping in-store, items available on-line, and shopping by phone or e-mail.

Monday, July 6, Phase 4 Policies Begin

• We ask customers to schedule an appointment to shop (you know, like getting a hair cut).
• Only three customers in the shop at the same time.  Couples count as "one unit", but if one is not shopping we may ask them to take a seat to help with distancing.
• Masked children are allowed, but if they are not shopping may be asked to sit at a distance.
• Appointments are for one-half hour each.  Customers can book up to one-hour at a time per day (or two consecutive appointments).
• Drop-in customers are welcome if no one is scheduled at that time, but ends when another customer with an appointment arrives.​
• At this time customers will not be allowed to spend time working on projects while in the shop.
• At this time bathroom use is limited to Bead In Hand staff.

Special Tip: streamline your shopping time by calling or sending an e-mail list of specific items you know you want (e.g. 2 packages of 4mm silver plate jump rings and 1 package of 2x2 silver plate crimp beads). We can have these items ready for you so you can focus on the beads.

When You Arrive

• The door will remain locked and customers arriving for an appointment should knock on the door; you may need to wait a few minutes if a previous customer is completing their transaction. Be kind.
• Customers must wear a face mask before entering.
• Customers will be asked to wash their hands at the kitchen sink. Disposable gloves (provided by BIH) are optional.
• If two customers are in the store we ask that they be considerate and thoughtful about maintaining as much distance as possible.

​Shopping by Phone or E-Mail
Call us at 708.848.1761 or send an e-mail to our new dedicated e-mail address, [email protected].  We're happy to do a little personal shopping for you where you pay by phone and we can mail items or hold for pick-up.

Rules for Phone or E-mail Orders
Yep, gotta have rules.

• Be as specific as possible ("one or two strands of 6mm round glass, olive green, faceted or not faceted is ok," vs. "a few medium sized green beads").
• We can sell whole strands or packaged items.  Nothing loose at this time.
• If you're ordering more of something, giving us the item number is very helpful.  Tip: hold on to your receipts for better detail of previous purchases.
• When you've settled on the items you want we'll tell you the amount due and take payment a) by credit card over the phone, or b) you can pay when you pick up.
