Definition Day: Black Tie Jewelry

What is black tie jewelry?  That's what we started wondering when a customer recently mentioned getting some friends together for a "black tie jewelry" making party.  Here are some of our thoughts.

1.  We assume black tie jewelry is meant to complement black tie attire, so it's design should be based on what a person is wearing.

2.  Besides one's personal taste in jewelry, the design is likely to depend on the neckline, color, fabric and hairstyle being worn.  A backless dress is an invitation for jewelry that dangles low at the back.  Or perhaps a simple bow at the back expresses your elegance.

3.  If the front neckline is low you may want a Victorian style necklace with pearl or crystal sparkles amidst the delicate drapes.

4.  If the dress is very ornate, a necklace may be overwhelming.  Earrings and bracelets are sometimes just what you need as a final touch to an outfit.
