We don't know the origins of this list, and really, who needs a reason?  Still, it doesn't hurt to have some handy replies for the occasional skeptic (generally a family member unclear on the concept).

We buy beads because they're beautiful, because they add beauty to our lives, because we love the process of combining colors and textures into new designs.
